WHAT IS GAMERS4NATURE PROJECT?
Gamers4Nature project, with the reference POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031047, in the DigiMedia Research Unit (University of Aveiro, Portugal), aims to develop and implement strategies capable of encouraging the active participation of young audiences (upper-seconday and undergraduate students) in the creation of games for mobile devices, as a way to promote a change in behavior and environmental awareness, fostering knowledge about environmental conservation and biodiversity.
Premise: Students are more engaged with the lectured subjects when they are challenged to develop games about it.
Thanks to technological development and the appearance of tools built specifically for individuals with low or non experience in the field of programming, little separates game creators from players, offering the possibility for everyone design their own resources. The world of games is no longer just a place of consumption, but a stage of creation and innovation, where users have the possibility to learn not only through the game itself, but also through its creation.
Gamers4Nature project used as a strategy the use of a Toolkit for game design, a tool that seeks to facilitate the process of building game narratives, through the exploration of the various game elements, such as rules, resources and characters.
